Eller figured out right away that Sam was the enemy. It had been Sam that shot the previous corner merchant. Gainesville is a city of anarchy, but to go out on the street and pump bullets into a fellow merchant in the bright of day, is absolutely something that even barbaric societies don’t tolerate. Gainesville is rather barbaric.

When we finally got Les Eller as a replacement slave seller on our corner, it was Sam that sent a threatening note to the new dealer about selling nude women.  All over town women are displayed nude, this was not even a problem for Sam — he just liked to play king of the mountain. He thought our position was stronger. Most street sellers won’t stand still to be shot down. I didn’t want a shoot out, but Sam had to have one.

Sam wanted to outdo his older brother, me. We lost big because of the rest of the family not stopping Sam. We lost our store, our house, our established business.  Sam lost his freedom.

I went back into town half a year after sneaking out.  I was wearing a beard, and a religious hat.  I even have a new name and ID now.  Sam works in the slave establishment of Samford Penbrooke a midget.  He is a  branded slave and I think by looking at him that he’s been gelded.  That would be what the midget would do to his enemies.  Now Sam is dressed in tight pants and a see- thru shirt so you can see the midget’s big brand on his shoulder, ‘SM.  If I was a little guy I would be afraid to have someone like Sam around me.  I was in the slave showroom looking around while Sam was there for over 30-minutes and he didn’t seem to notice me.  Sam had his eyes only on his master.  He had become a very trained slave.  I also saw Buddy Excel dressed like Sam and also branded.  He ran in front of the midget and opened doors and often crawled around in front of him.  I could think of nothing immediate I could do for my brother.

At our old jewelery store building I went in and looked around.  Half the store was occupied by girls and boys for sale.  The ones inside were dressed and they spoke the language.  outside it was the same nude and rude, it was the crude sex trade at its worst.  I was amazed that a woman was the chief seller in such a place, you would think a woman would be sensitive about selling woman, where men (mostly) poke and prod them like livestock. 

Half the jewelery store was still a diamond store.  Les was selling  diamonds and watches.  His once bald girl friend was selling nude slaves outside.  Several armed men were guarding everything.  It was guarded like a bank.  I don’t think anyone is going to walk in and take over the Eller operation easily.

In looking over the operation I didn’t see my sister Monica.  I wonder what he did with her?  I did see several pretty helpers in the jewelery part of the store, so we know Les is not lonely nights.  He actually had many more customers in and outside the store, than the Lucerno family ever had, even at Christmas.
